How do I know if Rasmuson Library owns the journal I need?

Determining whether or not Rasmuson owns a specific journal can be confusing. To find out if Rasmuson owns a specific journal, we recommend you search in two places: the UAF Journal Lists and Library Catalog. Also, you can always email or call us at (907) 474-7482 and we'll be glad to help.

The information below applies to looking for the title of a specific journal. If you're looking for journal articles, use library databases appropriate to your discipline.

  1. The first place to search for a journal title is the UAF Journals List. Access the UAF Journals List from the Library home page and select the Journal Titles tab.

Type the name of the journal you're looking for into the search box. In this example, we'll search for the journal entitled Civil War History.

If Rasmuson Library owns the journal electronically, you'll see one or more links to databases that contain an abstract or full text. For example, when you search for the journal Civil War History, you'll get the following results:

The first three items under "Full Text Access" (Humanities Full Text through Project Muse) are databases Rasmuson library currently subscribes to. The year next to the database shows what year the subscription is for. For example, for Humanities Full Text we own electronic access for years 1983-2011; and for Project Muse we have access to issues between 1955 - the present.

  2. The second place to search is the Library Catalog.

    a. Change the All Collections drop down to UAF Fairbanks campus libraries.
    b. Using the All Fields limiter, search for the title of the journal and include the word periodical in the search. For best results, put the title of the journal in quotation marks.
